Govt. Ranbir College, Sangrur is one of the prominent and big colleges of Punjab. The College has won special laurels in academics, sports and cultural activities. The institution has produced very great personalities such as scholars, thinkers, teachers, doctors, engineers, good administrators, scientists, writers, brave soldiers, international players, political leaders and great artists are the product of this college.
Govt. Ranbir College Sangrur was established in 1939 as Inter College with the courtesy of Late Maharaja Ranbir Singh of Jind on the occasion of his golden jubilee. In 1943, the college became Degree College. Maharaja Ranbir Singh was not only an able administrator but also an intellectual person and the lover of education. Therefore, he had special interest towards the development of academic institutions. A college house situated in front of Sh. Kali Devi Temple outside Patiala Gate was exclusively demarcated for the residence of the Principal. The college has been providing education to the students of the region for a very long time and this crusade for higher education still continues.
In 1963, the local Ranbir College of girls was merged into college & the college become co-educational college. In 1962, the Govt. of Punjab established Punjabi University Patiala for the decentralisation of academic powers and the promotion of regional languages and culture. In 1970, the college was taken out from the jurisdiction of Punjab University Chandigarh and included in the jurisdiction of Punjabi University, Patiala.
The College is situated on the Sangrur Patiala Road outside the city. There are vast playgrounds near the entrance of the college. Inside the college, there are beautiful green lawns. The royal building architect of the college shows that this is an old educational institution of the Sangrur district. Since 1984, bank service has also been available with the State Bank of Patiala Extension Counter for the facilities of the students and staff.
The college has under Graduate Courses in Science, Commerce and Arts faculty and post graduate in Political Science, Punjabi & English and B.A. Honours in the subject of Philosophy and Economics. Computer education is available in the compulsory subjects of commerce.
The college also runs BCA, BBA, PGDCA, Hospitality Diploma in Food Production courses under H.E.I.S.
